These mammoth tusk tiles are cut from blocks that has been kiln-dried, cast in stabilizing resin, and heat-cured for a period of one week. This technique results in a much more stable and durable material, minimizing deformation during cutting, sanding, or turning.

The prices are for a single tile. The items pictured are representative of the items you will receive. Please note that there will be some variability in patterns, sizes, and colors, as these are natural materials. There may be some chipping and small air voids. Also note that while the material color is natural (mostly brown with occasional white), the resin used is colored blue or purple, and is not opaque.

This is a genuine mammoth fossil, dating back to the last Ice Age, and is approximately 20,000 years old. Mammoth ivory is a great material for knife and pistol grips, inlays, jewelry, pens, and other semi-precious applications.

Working With Mammoth Ivory:
These fossils are not yet petrified, though you may see limited mineralization. The tusks are still soft enough to work with regular tools you would use for horn and bone. Just keep them sharp. Overall, turning mammoth tusks is most similar to turning TruStone pen blanks, or hard plastics. It may be helpful to drill these materials with a backing to prevent blowout.
