These scales are made from pieces of mammoth tusks, embedded in a stabilizing resin matrix. The listing is for a set of two panels as seen in the photos. The items pictured are the actual pieces you will receive. We do our best to show all their features so please look closely before purchasing. Please note that the resin used to stabilize these scales is slightly translucent.

 

This is a genuine mammoth fossil, dating back to the last Ice Age, and is approximately 20,000 years old. Mammoth ivory is a great material for knife and pistol grips, inlays, jewelry, pens, and other semi-precious applications.

 

Working With Mammoth Ivory:

These fossils are not yet petrified, though you may see limited mineralization. The tusks are still soft enough to work with regular tools you would use for horn and bone. Just keep them sharp.
