This is about as good as it gets in the mammoth ivory world. As mammoth remains are unearthed after thousands of years in the ground, their tusks are almost always partially mineralized, cracked, discolored, and unstable. For this reason, pieces of intact white mammoth tusk are very rare and highly sought after by craftsmen all over the world. We are pleased to offer you this block of intact white mammoth ivory. This piece has not been stabilized and contain no stabilizing resin or colorants. What you see is the raw material that survived thousands of years underground and maintained its natural structure.

The prices are for a single tile. The items pictured are representative of the items you will receive. Please note that there will be some variability in patterns, sizes, and colors, as these are natural materials. There may be some chipping and small air voids.

This is a genuine mammoth fossil, dating back to the last Ice Age, and is approximately 20,000 years old. Mammoth ivory is a great material for knife and pistol grips, inlays, jewelry, pens, and other semi-precious applications.

Working With Mammoth Ivory:
These fossils are not yet petrified, though you may see limited mineralization. The tusks are still soft enough to work with regular tools you would use for horn and bone. Just keep them sharp. Overall, turning mammoth tusks is most similar to turning TruStone pen blanks, or hard plastics. It may be helpful to drill these materials with a backing to prevent blowout.
