These scales are made with high quality epoxy resin and jute fabric.
Jute is similar to burlap, but is a softer natural fiber with better resin-binding properties, resulting in better cohesion between the resin and the filler.

These are the same as our regular "abalone" micarta, but interlaced with layers of colored fabric to achieve interesting effects.
